The original Kannonzaki lighthouse was built of brick．
64，600 bricks are said to have been used．
The bricks were made at the Yokosuka Steel Works（later a shipbuilding company）underthe supervision of a French engineer．
The lighthouse was destroyed by the earthquake of 1922.
The bricks were all marked　with　the　name“Yokosuka Seitetsu-sho”．
Even today，the bricks are found under the cliffs of the lighthouse．
